Title: Minecraft
Post by: Shawnachu on July 11, 2009, 05:12:00
A Java-based game where you place blocks and build things. There's a multiplayer mode that allows you to build with others in real time.

Spoiler: Screenies (click to show/hide)

I recently made a public server called "Theo and Dot's Cliffs" (Dot is my sister's username).  If you see it up, join. :3

It's not running on a dedicated server, it's just up when I'm able to be there.  This ensures that basically no griefing will happen, so long as I am vigilant and/or people I trust are on.

Okay, I've made an account now, so I made an attempt at some bigger stuff. First I built a house, then I built a giant underground chamber underneath it, then I built a tower in the chamber. What a waste of... how many hours? I don't know... Four prehaps X)
I took pictures too. I am proud of my giant chamber.

I'm curious - what servers do you all go to regularly?

I've been to many good servers, but almost all of them have disappeared or have been griefed so bad there's no point in going anymore (GRIEFERS SUCK).

The only good one that I have found that continues to appear (albeit only in the evenings) is Quote's Islands, which is the first one I ever went to.  I love it. :3

What are your favorite servers?

I'm regularly on:

* Kavalakari's Flatgrass- Again!

We can haz server!

It is not an official niff server (there will be a few other people) and will only be open so long as my PC is on (16-23 week, 10-24 'end)

It is called "Jims epic server of awesome"

If I recognise any of you guys on there, I will promote you to builder rank! Troll (aka grief) and I will not hesitate to use the /nerve_gas or release the /killer_phoenix! (but I know none of you will do that) (and they really are real commands)

It is a MCZall server, so check http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/MCzall (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/MCzall) for a list of the many (many many many) special commands!

EDIT:I am about to make a dedicated Nifflas map. Any preferences on map type? The options are:flat, island, forest, mountain, pixel and desert.

sorry, level generator program got nuked and it went for grassland.

What version of java are you using? The latest version is R21. Updating solved it for some people I know.
Are your video card drivers up to date? Does your video card support OpenGL?
Is your video card a Dell GMA 500? ('cause then you've got no hope at all.)

I don't know if your drivers are up to date, but I think your card does support OpenGL, if I remember correctly.

EDIT: Or not. I'm not quite sure.

Anyway, I have a question of my own: HOW do you connect? The link you gave me just gives me a generic single player level, so I can't talk.

I tried making my own server then connecting from there, it tells me I'm not the admin.

So I use the console to make me an admin, and try using /goto niffworld in talk. Unrecognized command. Okay, how about in console? [console] admins goto niffworld. Nothing happens.

Seriously, how is it THAT complicated?

Making your own server will never work; I think you are confusing this with IRC.

If the level generator screen shows up, refresh and it should work. This happens to me sometimes amd that solves it.

Also, are you logged in? You must be logged in to play multiplayer. Minecraft does not remember your online status, so you must log in every time you enter the site.

@SF: Wikipeidia sez your graphics card supports OpenGL 1.2-I think you need at least 2.0 for this to work. Sorry!
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Yukabacera on August 14, 2010, 18:35:50
No level generation thingy shows up: it just gives me that Generating Level... loading screen (you know, the one that says eroding, soiling, etc.) and then I go into the level. It seems to be the same level every time, but it's obviously not a multiplayer one because I can generate new levels, and the multiplayer commands don't work.

And I am logged in.

Seriously, I just don't get it.  :P2

Server software updated itself, restarting the server and making a new access URL.
http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?server=83f999b50dd1a43ff1d2349f9605ce3 (http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?server=83f999b50dd1a43ff1d2349f9605ce3)

If that link ever fails to work, use this-http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?ip=92.15.105.83&port=25564 (http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?ip=92.15.105.83&port=25564)-which is a direct tap into my server. Please don't if it's avoidable though, uses more bandwidth that way.

EDIT:The IP address changes every three days, I will try to keep it updated. PM me if I forget.

Ah, that worked! Anyway, I improved the JIM a bit: now it uses the famous form of internet contemporary art, UNITINU. Or in this case, MITJIM.

Also I tried to create an epic lava stream thingy but it didn't work.

Niffworld is looking good, by the way!

Yeah, this is working well now.

A few things I would like to add:

Zone protection is available (which allows only one person to place/delete blocks inside a given cuboid) , but only for meaningful structures like a person's base, or a highly complex pixel art. Protection will expire if the owner does not venture inside the zone fo one week. Ask me if you wish to have it.

some useful building commands include:
/place <blockname> (Places <blockname> under your feet)
/cuboid <blockname> <solid/hollow/wire/random> (Fills a cuboid with <blockname>
/spheroid (see above)
/undo <1-120> (undoes your actions for the last <1-120> seconds)
/redo (guess)
/replace <block> <block2> (replaces all <block> with <block2> inside a given cuboid)
/abort (cancels any pending action)
/bind <block> <block2> (whenever you place a <block>, system replaces it with <block2>)
/tree <fern/cactus> (grows a tree wherever you place your next block. <fern/cactus> is optional)
If a command asks you to "modify two blocks to determine the edges", simply place or delete two blocks that will be at the two opposite corners of the cuboid. A block you place will be instantly deleted once the system registers it, and a block you delete will be instantly replaced.

To avoid accidental flooding, the physics are switched off. If you need water/lava to spread,  ask me and I will enable them for a while. Remember, fluids with the prefix active_ will spread, fluids without will not (like the ones I used to make the epic pillars on my tower) I will not enable physics if there is active_water or active_lava in the level already, instead I will replace all active liquids with their still counterparts first before enabling them. Take care placing fluids above sea level.

If you see the message PHYSICS SHUTDOWN IN <world> please /goto that world, and help me clear up whatever caused this. I will instruct you how upon arrival.

I think that's about it. Happy mining!

I just got premium membership, and it's awesome. At first I was a bit skeptical: "Hmm, monsters? Limited blocks? Dying? That doesn't sound like Minecraft..." But then I decided to try it out, and I got hooked immediately.  XD

Also, I'm probably the ONLY person who EVER played Alpha and built a headframe above a mine. If you did this before me, tell me right away.

I have premium membership, it is indeed at least 143% more awesmoe than the classic edition (which is still rather awesmoe)

Incidentally, I have the software to create a alpha server, but not the clearance to do so. When beta comes around, I will. Sound like a good idea?

What do you mean, you don't have clearance? I can run an alpha server just fine and there's only one problem: it takes AGES to render.

Been hosting a server for a forum I go on as well, and it works rather well. But the fact everyone seems to be building evil forts of doom worries me... I really want that custom SMP software with lighters to make Furnaces work and stuff, as well.

But anyway, I have my Alpha split into 3 worlds, the first is my regular world where i'm starting to build a fortress. Second is a hacked world where I test out redstone and other stuff. And the third I haven't started yet. I really wish I hadn't screwed up my snow world, though :/

Also... watch out for "HIM"...

Sorry pplz, but for the moment the server is down for security. This is because of the recent crisis involving Notch's server going down, hence shutting down name verification, and now anyone joining the server is asplode. This is expected to last until Monday.

For those interested, this is what happened:
Notch released the update and so many people tried to download it that it put lotsa pressure on the server and unfortunately the new version contained a bug that crashed some peoples' computers to a gray screen and so lotsa people tried downloading again or sending messages to Notch or nothing (because their computers were crashed) and also lotsa trolls and flamers started trolling and flaming Notch and all this meant that Notch had to disable everything on the server ever while with his other hand fixing the grayscreen and with his other hand responding to all the trolls and flamers and all this while his local time was 2:00 am and all people can do is complain because the paticular bug they wanted fixing wasn't fixed or that there were more bugs and all this equals server headsplosion and so there is no server today *cries*

The update is out, and I guess the biggest feature is Sneaking. Press (and hold, for now) shift to move slower. You won’t make sounds, and you won’t crush plants, and you won’t fall off ledges.

Meh. I guess you could call it crouching too, like the MCwiki does.

I took a look at the action in third-person view while playing, and I think sneaking is a more accurate idea after all. Your character's torso just bends forward a bit, instead of the legs doing anything crouch-like.

Very nice!  Now that's a minecart ride I want to go on.

Sadly, there's no minecart ride yet: you can barely call this thing "a mine". There was plenty of iron and coal when I first found it, now it's just a bunch of rocks along with a cobblestone staircase.

(I also started an incredibly time-consuming and ultimately pointless project in this mine: remove all the soil and gravel so it's just bare rock. After I filled up a whole chest with soil and gravel, I gave up.)

offtopic: Is that Windows 2000?

No, it's WinXP, with the Windows Classic option and a theme that was supposed to look like OS/2, but now it just looks like...that. I like old computer GUIs: the blocky, dark icons and things are much better than the smooth, sleek and colorful stuff you see in Vista and 7, if you ask me.

I've also styled Firefox to look like Mosaic. Yes, I'm that crazy.  :P2

Back to Minecraft:

That mine isn't the only thing on my, uh, property: I've also got a house (duh), an art gallery (for some reason) and a beacon so I don't get lost (this happened plenty of times when I go to get some logs in the middle of the night). I'm planning to fence in the whole place sometime soon.

(The art gallery is a must-see: the paintings have such wonderful, descriptive titles such as "Kebab at Lunchtime" and "de_aztec Perspective 1". The collections are no better: "Everyday Events Collection", for example. (this collection features the famous painting "Creeper, with Photograph" painted by the famous Swedish visionary Markus Persson.)

I recently got back into the game after I lost my saves. I started with a lighthouse right over the spawn point, then I made my usual mine, but this time I found an absolutely enormous system of caves. After a few hours I managed to explore every nook and cranny of it, at which point I decided that the very farthest, deepest corner would be a wonderful spot for a house! (I later discovered that it wasn't exactly deep... Not underground, anyway. Deep under the sea. Which caused some complications when I tried digging upward.) I also found an awesome Cliff Hole Ledge Thing which I plan to build a fortress in.

EDIT: Also, I'm having some trouble with my underground tree farm. It meets all the requirements the Minecraft Wiki lists for trees to grow, but they're still not growing. If anyone can shed some light on this, it would be quite helpful

I don't want to make you sound stupid, but are you sure that the tree is 3 blocks away from any obstacles? Maybe you've placed a torch next to it?

If this isn't the case, then just wait. I had to wait quite a bit before my first tree grew. (and this was not even underground!)

I wouldn't know, ACWL. Sorry. I think that you draw those things right of the head, in the space that's usually blank, but it's been a long time. Experiment!

Actually, I found it: http://minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=3413

Also, here's something I just noticed:

EDIT: Also, I'm having some trouble with my underground tree farm. It meets all the requirements the Minecraft Wiki lists for trees to grow, but they're still not growing. If anyone can shed some light on this, it would be quite helpful

I don't want to make you sound stupid, but are you sure that the tree is 3 blocks away from any obstacles? Maybe you've placed a torch next to it?
Well, I was told by the Wiki that you only had to have 4 blocks of space DIRECTLY ABOVE the sapling for it to grow. Is this out of date or something?

Y'all might wanna check out this: http://skylands.goonygoon.com/ (http://skylands.goonygoon.com/)

Someone built an Alpha map with dungeons, treasure houses, and a variety of environments, all floating in the sky. I played it a bit yesterday and it's very fun. Knowing that there were things waiting out there for me made me break my habit of picking a spot near the spawn and building my base of operations there for the first time a very long while. :D

On a related note, it's interesting to try to play a nomad and focus on traveling around instead of just building a base. I learned early on that all you really need is a good set of tools, a door, a crafting table, a few torches, and some dirt blocks; you can easily dig out little underground bunkers to wait out the night in, and then loot the stuff in them after it's over and carry on your merry way. :^^:

Very cool floating islands. :O

I'll try to post up pics tomorrow of my basement to the house I'm making, just gotta find pesky iron to make a fire starter for a fireplace in my basement. :D

Gosh a game this fun hasn't come up in a LONG time, this is a much needed refresher from all the games people hype about today (I'm looking at you PS3 and Xbox 360).

Mainly because i dont feel like re-arranging my entire firewall (it's off ATM) just so no-one can play :/

Sorry for double posting, but is there anyone on ACWL's server? I've been waiting for ~1 hour and I still haven't seen anyone.

Here is what has happened so far: (interesting parts in bold)
Spawned into world at night, immediately suffocated.
Jumped around a bit, and somehow ended up ~20m in the air. Fell. landed on a large beach.
Notice an adminium building on the beach. find 1 gunpowder, 5 sand, and 3 dirt on floor.
Spot creeper on horizon. Panic.
Notice creeper is not moving, or reacting to my approach.
Somehow get hurt and lose 2 hearts. Spin, and there is nothing there.
Find 2 arrows on floor.
Headed to top of hill to look for people. Started to build treehouse. Stayed there through night.
Head down from treehouse, and stand near trunk. Suddenly, the tree, and the ground around it, explodes. Me not harmed. Confusion.
Spot glitchy pig/zombie on horizon. Not moving, just standing under a tree vibrating, switching rapidly between a pig and a zombie.
Suddenly, it is now instantly night again. The stars in the sky are vibrating. I panic.
Quit to type this.
Rejoin.

Now that's an odd happening...  O_o

I'm planning on buying the game today, then I'll play on ACWL's server.

But I have some questions:

1. Is your server up continuously? As in, you you have it on a computer that you let run day n night?

2. If I leave the server, and come back, will what I have built still be there? (I'm thinking it will be)

3. What's an OP? XP

1. It appears to be. ACWL left to go to sleep, and the server is still on.
2.Yes, it will be. You will also spawn in the same place you left from, and have the same inventory.
3.OP=OPerator. A person who administrates the server.

EDIT: also, ignore the last post, there are others on the server; I have seen ACWL and Yuka. I am building a huge huge huge treehouse on the hill NW of the spawn. Come see it!

This is a bit off topic, but I would like to know how you guys are running your servers? I've been really interested in setting up my own home server (mainly for accessing files and an external hard drive (though I already have a 1TB one). Technically my reason for running my own server is purely to grow my ego.

Either Jim or ACWL I'm pretty sure you are running the Minecraft servers one spare desktops so could you post up pics of the setup so I have a general idea on how to put everything together?

Ah lol... I could possibly chuck something up on my website, but i dont have the time right now. Um...

Edit: i take it back, i do have time now. Would you guy like me to set up another SMF forum for Minecraft discussion? im happy to C)

The server probably will not be on 24/7, i just left it on last night when jimj was still playing. Actually.. i might leave it on 24/7, but i need to run a logger to see how much internet it chews through, because my mum get real frantic about that stuff.

And Wanderer... The bad news is that im running the MC server off the same computer that i play it on, which is a Laptop XD

But to set up a server of some kind, you need to hook everything up to a router. Windows can normally find things if you do that. But dont listen to me, im no pro at setting up servers and stuff (seeing all the other computers in my house are Macs XD)

I'm running Windows 7 on my 24.5 inch iMac, so I like Macs, but Windows is still my fav. :)

For future occurrences of this problem, could i get one of you to set up a server, with the same preferences as mine (PM me and i'll provide details), and when i have issues i'll Dropbox the map to you? if we could have a backup system like that, it would be epic

ACWL, what version is the server? I noticed that furnaces are still bugged, but this was fixed in an update; The server does not auto-update, you will have to re-download the file.

EDIT: here's a list of currently known bugs that you should be wary of:
Everything is invincible.
Mob spawners always spawn monsters, regardless of what the server says.
Placed fluids will not spread, and will disappear over time. (however, /giving yourself water or lava avoid this)
Grown trees are sometimes glitchy, leafless, or even invisible. (rejoin the server to fix)
Doors can split in half, or not let players pass even when open.
Pressure plates and buttons don't open doors.
Tools can be healed by dropping them and picking them back up.
Boats are invisible to other players, and cannot be recovered.
Seeds may be invisible to others, and unclaimable to you.
Chests:can duplicate or destroy items if you move them around too quickly.
Minecarts and minecart tracks: cause severe client and server lag, to the point of crasing both. DO NOT USE!

I might volunteer, since I've just found out how to get my PC to auto-start at a certain time.
It depends on when the majority of us are online. As said before, the server would always be on be on 09:00~24:00 weekends, and 4:00~11:00 weekdays. This could be extended, but my PC MUST be off for at least 1 hour per 24 hours. (dunno why, but there's a big red sticker down the side warning me of this)

Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: AClockworkLemon on October 05, 2010, 23:56:53
hmm....
Make sure that the server says 'preparing start region' when you start it up. By default it should generate a world calle 'world' in the same folder as the jar is. A good test is to rename that World5 and put it in your single-player save folder, and load it up to see if it works.

I will be away for 4 day, starting tomorrow. i cannot promise that the server will be up. Cross your fingers.

I'm sorry to put it like this, but:

Unless someone else can take over hosting the server before / on Wednesday 13 October, the server WILL be shut down. School calls
If it comes to this, i will make available a zip containing the map, which can be played normally in single-player, and the cartograph captures.

If it makes it any easier, the server is now set up using Hey0's servermod 109, which isn't an EXE. the whole operation is run with .jars and .txts, so if you run linux, it should work.
If you would like to set up the server, i will PM you with a download, and (if neccesary) i am MORE than happy to help you out in setting it up / editing settings, etc.

Replacement server will be ready soon. Only on daylight hours atm.

Not too laggy for me, but UK<-->Europe route is slow. UK<-->USA seems fine.

Since this server is now on the complete other side of the world, weird stuff might happen.
If it was laggy before, not so much now; if it was super-fast before, expect ragequits.

Map is as of 6th October, so work since then will be lost (soz)

If the game is too laggy, please don't stay TOO long. My poor little netbook can suffer from headsplosion, and me form wall-induced head injuries.

WARNING:INCOMING WALL OF TEXT
---
Formal writing FTW!
---
Dear <potential player name> 's <mother/father/guardian> ,

It has probably come to your attention that your <son/daughter> has expressed interest in purchasing the game Minecraft. It is also probable that you, like so many parents before you, were unsettled by your <son/daughter>'s frantic description of the game;

"It's like Lego, only with zombies! also it's online so's there's lotsa people playing as well also dynamite and giant exploding green peni things OHMYGOODNESSIMUSTHAVETHISGAMEITSFTW!"

I am writing to you to tell you that such fears are understandable, but unfounded. One of your primary concerns about the game probably is the supposed level of violence; however, the only actual fighting (which is few and far between) is very tame, namely jabbing the enemy with your blocky appendage until they disappear in a puff of smoke. In addition, the game contains a feature (dubbed "peaceful mode") that disables all enemies entirely.

Another common problem is that of multiplayer mode; as we all know, anyone on the internet could be anyone. To combat this, most servers-or at least mine-are constantly monitored by the server operator*, and impose a strict ranking system to keep away nasties and uglies that wish to <abduct/murder/disturb/melt/dissolve/de-spine/potato-salad-ify> your <potential player's age> year old.

However, Minecraft is very addictive, so I would advise purchasing an IV unit and filling it with gravy.

In conclusion, Minecraft is a awesome game that you should defiantly purchase for your <son/daughter>'s entertainment, for the low price of just $10. It will almost certainly not damage your <son/daughter> beyond repair**, despite what you might assume.

ARGH! I keep missing everyone on the server! Every time I look at the logs, I always see that the very last entry is "forget this, I'm leaving"! Why am I not told about these things?

Well, i just got back from holidays, and i think yukabacera deserves a full explanation of my decision to make Maulbane architect over him.

(Firstly i wold like to point out that setting a city on fire is generally frowned upon, normally you can get someone's attention via other means)

The main reasons i made Maulbane Architect are (and i was tossing between hm and Yuka):

*I Preferred his attitude. Sure, this is probably because i had more time talking to him (damn timezones), but that's just how it was.
*Again, timezones. And the fact that Maul is (more than slightly, seemingly) obsessed with MineCarft. When i looked at the logs, i noticed that he was online most of the time i was not. Therefore making him architect (which simply introduced some commands such as /kick) would mean that the server could be watched while i was asleep. Even when not on the public server listing, it's amazing the amount of griefers that you can get.
*Finally, I thought that Maulbane would be responsible with the new commands. No offense Yuka, but with your display of burning down Coventry, i kinda think i made the right decision there.

If I'd asked you about his promotion, you'd probably just give me some stupid short speech like some kind of machine and brush me off.

Besides, you can't seriously think I wanted the rank just because of the ability to kick someone. (like, what?)

Let's just forget about those damn ranks anyway.

ACWL, could you possibly administrate the server while I'm away, seeing as you're awake when I'm not? You still have admin rank. Last night, we had a wave of ~15 (-snip-) users invade the server and start dynamiting everything! (fixed nao, +IP bans for all)

but my server is only offline from 00:00~02:00... (01:00~03:00 for you)
Are you sure you're connecting properly? Can you connect to other servers? What error tells you that you can't connect?
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Wanderer on October 11, 2010, 21:24:02
Well yesterday (maybe 6 pm onwards?) your signature said you were offline, I then checked the server in Minecraft and I couldn't connect.

Though late (about 9 pm-ish up) last night the server was online again.

1:00-3:00 is school time, yay! :D

EDIT: At around 3:12 onwards (for now) your server is really laggy, unplayable laggy. Though it could be due to the fact that it's a week day and the afternoon when kids arrive back after school. But normal internet activities are not slowed down for me.

Dagnabbit double post again,

BUT

I realized that the 1-3 offline time relates to your 1-3, which is probably AM. That's why I can really access the server at maybe 8-ish because that's when you go to bed. But I can later because thats when you wake up.

I hate timezones.

Sorry guys, it seems that just like ACWL, I can no longer continue to host the server. It seems piping out 20GB+ a day to people on the other side of the world is not something my ISP allows, and they've cottoned on.
They gave me 4 options; Quit hosting the server, pay £2,000 for a better subscription, have my phone and internet disconnected, or go to prison. I chose the first.
If anyone else is able to host, PM me please.

So is this the end of our little server?

Unless someone else volunteers or I can negotiate with my ISP (which I'm trying now) then, yes.

If that is the case, I will release the last backup of the map so that you guys can play it SP.
(the ISPs decided to pull down the server AS it was saving, which corrupted the world; this will be a 3-hourly backup, possibly
with some things missing)
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Yukabacera on October 30, 2010, 12:48:32
Well, I *could* try hosting the server, but I'll need a quick lesson on how to run it and all that crap. I don't think this will be a problem for my ISP, they're so ignorant I could be piping out 50gb of gay midget porn per hour and they wouldn't notice.

So yeah, if those negotiations don't work out, I'll try hosting.

SERVER IS BACK! W00T!  :D

still on 25564 for some reason, so add :25564 to the end of the IP address.
And in case your scrollbar is broken, that IP is:
92.15.98.203:25564

I find it amusing how google auto-suggest, if you type "what is my", the top two results are "what is my IP" and "what the **** is my IP"

The server is nao (maybe) compatible with the new update. I have yet to try it.
Portals don't currently work, since the server cannot yet cope with having the overworld and the underworld loaded at the same time.
Minecarts still don't work, which makes me angry.
Redstone nao DOES work, but there are some visual  bugs (like redstone not appearing to be lit, even if it is)

@Lizzaroro, mebbe. depends why, and how much chocolate you give me. Also, it's pretty impossible to give you the WHOLE map, since it's stored in a funny way now. lotsa different folders for different chunks, and not a level.dat in sight. (which worries me)

Jim informs me that the server has been attacked by "Spambots who constantly advertise viagra".

That doesn't work, the /ban and /banip commands require a full name for safety. (if there was you and someone called "aclothesline" on the server, /ban acl might ban either of you)

Also, Server 0.2.4 doesn't work for some reason, It just keeps throwing an exception on startup. Can anyone understand this?

Oh, hey, the server fixed itself. Weird.
IP:92.15.90.147
Port:25564 or 25565 (try 25564 first)

I have found a static IP service that doesn't ask for £240 a month!
Nao I must find out whether it is a scam, or if I am eligible.

In other news: I have set the forum to require an email verification, to possibly combat the endless hordes of spambots.

(WARNING to the person who runs the spambots: once I find the e-mail of one of your spam accounts, I can and will trace it back to your ISP (no matter if the address was faked, you're still on a server) and a quick query to the nameservers will tell me the e-mail that you used to sign up to your ISP, and any others that have been used by you. You like spam? I'll post your e-mail all over the internet. That should get you some.)

The server now runs on 25565, so it's not needed.

Yuka, will you please explain what happened? Threatening to destroy people will not help me solve whatever problem you seem to be trying to convey.

I assume that you mean that your zepplin burned down. While I cannot find out the cause, I can confirm that no-one bar you and one other person has been online since 2010-11-16 23:21:40, which is as far back as logs go. The other person was under the name "Salamander12" and, since they had never visited the server before, was a guest rank. (and so could not /give themselves anything, and could not use fire, lava or water). They also did not venture more than 128 blocks from the spawn point before disconnecting 2 minutes later. (Your zepplin is at closest 943 blocks from spawn) I don't know what burned your zepplin, but it was either you, or a chunk error that spread a fire block from somewhere (this is more likely the closest a permanent fire block is)

At one point, I even considered promoting you to operator.

And so, you have been demoted to visitor rank. You must be given blocks if you wish to build.

I am awaiting advice from AClockWorkLemon as to whether I should even do this.

Any normal person would have been banned AGES ago; and yet I kept you, since I know that when you're not being an idiot, you are in fact the most active member of our small community. At one point, I even considered promoting you to operator.

And so, you have been demoted to visitor rank. You must be given blocks if you wish to build.

I am awaiting advice from AClockWorkLemon as to whether I should even do this.

Jim, i sent you a pm.

Yuka. i am EXTREMELY clse to coming on the server right now and permabanning you. feel lucky my connection is timing out. Coventary pushed me to the edge, but skybuild is too far.

He's funny

...what?

As I said on the server, I refuse to believe that the 4 times a major server glitch happened, it only hit me. Floating Windowland, Sunken Windowland and Underground Clay/Brickland didn't even have one block moved two squares to the left or something, but I:

-had half of Centralia destroyed during active building (jimj and BW were also actively building at the time, nothing was destroyed/moved/whatever)
supposed reason: server crash (well okay, it did crash, but that's all I'm willing to acknowledge)

-had one quarter of mine and bumper's factory wiped out by a bunch of sand and dirt
supposed reason: "chunk error", as a cobblestone sign right on top of the sand pile told me (please, I'm supposed to believe the server creates signs to inform me that it screwed everything up?)

-had most of my zeppelin completely burned
supposed reason: 1. me burning it (another "...what?") 2. another "chunk error" mysteriously relocating a permanent fire block "from nearby" right in the zeppelin's entrance, while not destroying everything else like at my factory, just placing one permanent fire block right there. the closest permanent fire block I can think of is in skybuild and underground, too far away and of course, too isolated to naturally spread.

-Centralia municipal building just going poof. yes, this was a collaborative effort between me, jimj and BW but I'm still having a very hard time believing the
supposed reason: backup being corrupted or something? who cares?

Also, the same half of Centralia was destroyed over and over again due to the same lame reason as above. I just stopped rebuilding after the sixth time or so.

Please explain these mysterious coincidences.

Code: [Select]
2010-11-17 19:56:08 [INFO] [CONSOLE] and unlike you, I don't have a computer monitor to hide behind
Oh, *hiding* behind a monitor. Right. Buy me a plane ticket and I'll go tell BW myself.

Yet again Yuka, these are not reasons to then grief other people. because it is griefing. Of those you have mentioned, few happened when i was active, but i have heard about the reports. And even if it was purposeful, it does NOT give yo reason to attack others. Ever tried talking politely? you may have noticed that when you set Coventry  on fire and blew it up, i did not ban you, but instead (attempted, however you made it bloody hard) to have a reasonable conversation. How about you learn from this, and try to do so yourself?

If you are under the impression that someone is griefing you, don't grief back! ask those who were around when it happened, talk to jimj, he has the logs. For god's sake, even feel free to ask me if you dont trust jimj. although i dont have the server console at my disposal, i'm pretty good at getting info.

And the threat of ban still stands, btw

Alright guys, I'm going to clear this up. Yuka has a right to be mad, it was my fault his zepplin was lit on fire.

I was exploring the inside and was wondering if thr floor was flammable, so I lit it. Panic at the fact that I couldn't put out the fire, because whenever I did it would catch back on fire again (either because the fire was below the blow or because I was on fire and that would continuously light the blocks.

Instead of thinking to put water inside the ship, I broke a hole I. The floor and jumped out when I thought I had smacked the rest of the fire out. But once I reached the ground I looked up in terror to see the zepplin still on fire. I tried to get the magic carpet woeking, but once I finally typed in the command correctly the entire zepplin was alit.

You can go back into the server records of placed/destroyed blocks and see that this had happened (if you can that is). More proof of my guiltiness is that if I rejoin the server, the place I respawn at is right. Below the zepplin.

This was not Badgerwookie's fault.

I did not do this intentionally, it was an honest and dumb mistake.

I understand if you ban me, because no matter whag I do something always goes wrong.

I won't rejoin the server because I think I might just mess it up again, besides, I have already found other servers I can play on (and hopefully not ruin).

Sorry for the inconvience,
Wanderer/LatenightTrout

This is also what I'm talking about! Wanderer, thank you for telling me. It was an honest mistake, I can always rebuild. There's no need to leave.

Still, that's kind of stupid. Checking if the floor is flammable? It's cloth, of course it's flammable. Besides, you know fire never works right in SMP. Just... don't do that again, okay?

BW, I'm sorry I was so quick to judge you. I will devote my full effort to helping you rebuild skybuild as soon as I persuade my computer to work.

I'm not removing my docking tower though.

jimj...there go your "reliable logs". I was telling you that this whole situation with the "server errors" and whatnot is impossible, and you refused to listen because you trust a .txt file more than a living being. Well, thanks.

It makes perfect sense. I was continually pointing out that your bullsh*t server errors were fake, and you kept trusting a .txt file over a human's intuition. This is even better evidence that there's a conspiracy against me. You kept trying to blame the server, but it was actually Wanderer's fault (again, it's nothing, don't leave, Wanderer!). You even listed everyone who ever visited the server as being unable to do it. Your logs were faked/wrong/both.

=I=
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: jimj316 on November 20, 2010, 18:46:18
errors were fake

I can't stress this enough, THEY WERE REAL ERRORS. Why, why would I have reason to consire against you? Seriously, why? You-as I have already said-are the most active member on the server, ranking above even me. If I suddenly decided to start randomly deleting all your stuff, that would mean destroying half of the stuff on the server. I don't know why you kept losing things, all I know is that it was during a time when the server save system was broken. From that information, Isn't it obvious how I would arrive at the conclusion "it must have been an error"?
You even listed everyone who ever visited the server as being unable to do it.

That wasn't everyone. I listed everyone who I had checked. Checking a person's profile takes time, so I started by checking badger, then you, then me, and then everyone else at random.

As for why it didn't cross my mind that it could have been an accident; it did, but you kept insisting it must have been deliberate, I didn't think to check that.

Anyway, why are we still arguing? We found the culprit (so to speak), proved it wasn't foul play, and you promised to help clear this up. You have my word that this was nothing to do with me. Of course, I could be lying, so I'll put it like this: Yuka, if anything else happens to anything you build, and it wasn't your fault, I PROMISE I will either revert the server to fix it, or help you rebuild. I will do my best to make sure that no more errors occur to ANYONE's stuff. If they don't, it's proof I am a man of my word (and everyone's stuff is fine). If they do, you were (maybe) right, and my earlier promise about helping you rebuild still stands. Either way, it's win-win for you. Do we have a deal?

Now, can we PLEASE stop arguing?

[mod]I agree, folks. To an outsider, it really seems to boil down to "you take computer games too seriously". conspiracy theories usually are a waste of everyone's time and taking stuff that personally helps nobody, least yourself. unless you feel better by thinking people care enough to conspire against the random internet person that you likely are to them. so calm down and build more block things. weeee.[/mod]

Sorry for all the downtime, it seems that every time Notch releases a new update, the server breaks FOREVAH.

also the IP bar in my sig might not be working. If the IP it shows doesn't work, connect to jesoa.servegame.com, and even if the webpage fails to show, copy the IP from the address bar and try it. The webserver has lately been causing HUGE CPU usage, so it is sometimes taken down.

Special Event:

For those of you who have not yet started reading the niffworld blog (http://niffworld.tumblr.com/), we here at niffworld are currently celebrating Christmas by building a Winter Wonderland located at /warp winterworld.

This is an area designated solely for Christmas related activities. Currently, buildings include a giant christmas tree (built by myself) and a giant snowman (built by jimj316); everybody else is also welcome to make their own additions as long as they are festive. Events such as a christmas party, new year's party and snowball fights (as long as snowballs keep working) will also be taking place.

So come, one and all to join in with the merriment  :D

What sort of updates are they? However it's way too greedy.. Considering a game development team on like 10 people already making millions.

Thank you for whitelisting me :)
I'm probably not going to go there often, though. I prefer the basic kind of servers, whit no mods or cheats, and with survival on. But I will use it to practice my redstone and piston techniques :P

I've had it since it's Indev stage, long before Alpha even. It was very different then to how it is as of Beta 1.8, but I have always liked Minecraft. I got addicted to it in the Summer holidays for about a week or two playing on faction servers, but I barely play it anymore.

I'd personally recommend it to anyone. It contains no violence or profanity in case people are anxious about that sort of stuff, but be warned that it becomes excruciatingly addictive most of the time. Especially with all of the content in 1.8.

It contains no violence or profanity.

What about all the monsters that try to kill you? Or like every player you will meet online?

There's no violence in the killing. Notch has deliberately left blood out, and online players can be, yes, but most servers are strict on that, as well as servers being a rather secondary feature to Minecraft. I'm primarily referring to the single player game which most play on primarily.
