List of BBCode functions?
« on: February 17, 2010, 05:36:57 »
In short, is there a list of the BBCode functions for the forum? Like, one for font?
A God, a Messiah, an Angel, a King, a Prince, and an All Terrain Vehicle.

Although the official SMF BBCode list does not include the custom BBCodes unique to this forum, it may help with the basic default ones, including codes that don't have buttons on the interface. :)

The weird TT thing wasn't quite what I wanted, but it's kinda cool. And so is the abbr thing and the acronym thing, but what's the difference between them?

I think of acronym as a specific type of abbreviation, but there doesn't seem to be any practical difference between the tags. Perhaps we could chalk it up to another case of hair-splitting geekery. ;)

I remember having posted somewhere that the [help] is ...helpful, but that not all tags are enabled and never will be, because they are useless/superfluous/stupid.
A list of the custom tags might me nice, indeed, but I'm too lazy right now. :P2

Actually, 'cause I'm a good minion, I checked the [help] button first before making this thread. :)

i believe an acronym is specifically where letters stand for words, where an abbreviation does not have to be exact (ex. SMF is an acronym for Simple Machines Forum and ex. is an abbreviation for example).

some browsers display these in different ways :P

Okay. So explain the Official Forum Rules hover-over. :P
It is used by Mods when someone fails to follow the Official Forum Rules, meaning that the Mods probably HATE to post that link. I hope this explanation correctly explains the 'Oh boy, we had to post this link again...' and if not, feel free to prove me wrong.

the rules "hoverover" is LPC's humor's result.

Actually, 'cause I'm a good minion, I checked the [help] button first before making this thread. :)

this part of the [help]is a very nice table with all the stuff, so why didn't you find the [font] tag there then? :P2
The fish, I think, came from PurpleP. for making the object images transparent instead of magenta. If I remember correctly.

So. THE LIST OF FORUM SPECIFIC TAGS

  • The Spoiler Tag is explained in the [faq]

oh yeah,
  • [faq] is a tag too...as are
  • [help] ([help]) and
  • [search] ([search]) and

  • recently added [ksfaq] (KS-editing FAQ)

    • Theme-specific Colour Tags
      Code: [Select]
      [cr]red[/cr]
      [cg]green[/cg]
      [cb]blue[/cb]
      [co]orange[/co]
      [cp]purple[/cp]
      [cy]yellow[/cy]
give red green blue orange purple yellow.

    • Marker Thingies
      Code: [Select]
      [?]huh?[/?] and [v]yay[/v] and [x]baw[/x]?  huh? and ✔ yay and ✘ baw

    • Achievement Tag[achvmnt]VkVSMDIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA[/achvmnt] explains itself when you follow its link

    • Editing Tags
      Code: [Select]
      [edit=THA EDIT0R]haz EDITED[/edit]
      [edit]me too[/edit]
Edit by THA EDIT0R: I haz EDITED
      Edit: me too

    • For when people's post got deleted
      Code: [Select]
      [replydeleted]That's cool-oh hey it disappeared[/replydeleted]
In reply to now deleted post(s):
      That's cool-oh hey it disappeared

    • for when you want to post awesome ASCII art
      Code: [Select]
[ascii]textart[/ascii][ascii]this is supposed to make people put in great stuff in ascii art but nobody uses it[/ascii]

    • when you want something to appear in the wadf theme even when the user set their theme to another
      Code: [Select]
      [wadf]it's soo bluuu[/wadf][wadf]it's soo bluuu[/wadf]

    • soundcloud -for embedding songs from soundcloud.com

    this one's a bit tricky:
    Code: [Select]
[soundcloud=USERNAME (of song poster)]song name (from song url)[soundcloud]
for example: Nifflas' "Sun Cave" has the url on soundcloud:
http://soundcloud.com/nifflas/sun-cave-unannounced-game and you need the underlined parts:
    Code: [Select]
    [soundcloud=nifflas]sun-cave-unannounced-game[/soundcloud]

the rest are mod only. That means even if you figured them out, you are not allowed to use them.

That includes the "In reply to deleted post" tag?  We're not allowed to use that?

In all honesty, I can think of cases where it would be useful for regular users to have access to that.  Sometimes users are a bit quick to delete their own posts.

This list is very helpful, by the way.  I didn't know about

I knew about the edit tag, but I assumed that it was mod-only since I had only seen mods use it.
