Title: [Playground][Easy][Medium] A Day at the Beach
Post by: Healy on May 08, 2010, 20:54:02
This is a level made for Grimwit's "Beach and a Cave" level competition, although I don't know if you can still enter it.

Anyway, it is about a day at a beachy place, much like the title suggests. It is based on a lot of my memories of summer vacations. There's a challenge course tucked away in here. There's also around five endings.

Edit: Whoops! Forgot to post the level! You can grab it here (http://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/1248) or here (http://knyttlevels.com/levels/Healy%20-%20A%20Day%20at%20the%20Beach.knytt.bin).

Terrific stuff. Got all five endings.

I kind of didn't like the Beachington music, but the rest played beautifully, felt like a good homage to Gaia (which is a good thing, IMO).

Wow... it's a very good playground level. It was relaxing exploring the island. Really feels like summer :D  I'd say this level also qualifies as an environmental one.

You made very good use of the tileset. Nice custom additions too. The extra challenges are pretty easy, but fun. Is this your first level? If so, it's even more impressive :O

This is actually my third completed level. My first level was Juni's Winter Wonderland (http://www.glorioustrainwrecks.com/node/1177).

Um...Oops.

Wrong Thread.

^_^  Wanna ride the Rocket ship.

O_O  Also, loved how every area looks distinct and fleshed out.  Very good.

And I also want each and every one of those "to be continued in another story" made into a level.  GO!

Grimwit and Vegetal Gibber, I actually intend to do some follow-up levels, but I'll probably won't get to them until later.

After working with it so long, it was strange to see the A Beach and a Cave tileset in someone else's level. However, this level has so much charm and character that I quickly got used to it. Definitely one of the better playgrounds out there.

The library has inspired me to use a similar method in my upcoming level. I couldn't say why it was so inspiring. I've seen it in other levels and other games too. I guess your version was just the best I've seen in a Knytt story.

Have you played Gaia?

egomassive: Thanks! I got the idea for the library from Gaia, as Yohji suggests. I hope I've managed to put my own spin on it.

Grimwit: I swear I'll get to it someday!

Actually, I haven't played Gaia. I know it comes highly recommended, but I'm not interested. I guess I ought to play the most highly praised playground level of all time before praising a playground level myself. Healy, sorry if you thought I was comparing your level to Gaia. The playgrounds I've played and haven't deleted are in alphabetical order: A Black Comedy by CloverBunnies, A Day at the Beach by Healy, Darkness by Pick yer Poison, Mashu Prapa by Salmoneous, and Trek by Terv.

So, I guess a more accurate praise would go as follows: I enjoyed your level much more than Trek, and I have no intention of deleting it. Also, it embodies the essence of what I think a playground level should be more than most playgrounds I've played.

btw: I have almost accumulated enough interest in Gaia to play it.

<_<  It's weird.  I was waiting for some of my comic to upload and I found myself playing your level again.  It's strangely soothing.  Must be because I have so few playground levels.

^_^  Or it's just THAT good.
