Title: [FPS] Team Fortress 2
Post by: Shawnachu on July 06, 2011, 02:14:27
Finally, I can make a thread about this game.

DL: http://store.steampowered.com/app/440/

Website: http://www.teamfortress.com/

Spoiler: screenshots (click to show/hide)

TF2 is the world's #1 war-themed hat simulator. Dress up one of the nine classes in stylish headgear while playing capture-the-flag, king of the hill, control point, payload, and arena themed minigames in between!

I'm kidding of course. Hats only make up 50% of actual gameplay.

Steam ID is shawnachu if you want to add me.

where have you been? It has been a while since you have been in this forum...

Anyways, i find this game a bit overrated since i heard its multiplayer only :/ (Fanboys, get your shotguns ready...)

what is that supposed to mean? That because it's multiplayer game it has to be overrated or that it is a bad game because it is multiplayer?

Anyway, getting tf2 for free is kinda sweet, to bad for me I already bought the game (twice even).
In my experience it's a decent multiplayer game. It can be fun and most players are noobs so it's easy too.
But all this focus on hats and whatnot is sorta ruining it for me. I don't like these games where you have to unlock the better weapons so the players who played more get the upper hand. And it's kinda uneven as it is already with the class-based gameplay. I prefer team fortress classic.

Salmoneus is back  C)

I have the same complaint as salmoneus, the items that they have been consistently adding detract from the game.

I used to play it heaps, but then I just stopped, and I barely ever play it any more...

I find myself playing this a bit, but in all dismay, I find myself not getting too many pieces of equipment.  (Low drop rates pain me.)
Also to note, is that I'm not exactly a good player...  The one real irksome detail is that I find myself with a ratio of being dominated 10 times before I dominate one player.  I'm WAY outta practice, and poorly equipped.

I had the problem that it didn't work. I got the message: CD key invalid for internet servers.

After trying lots of things, google told me that I had to restart steam once to fix the issue. I have played the game once since. X) Its a nice game. I used to play Quake 3 Fortress a lot back in the days.

When you're still ill-equipped, stay away from snipers. You'll get killed several hundred times before killing one without better items.

Made some screenshots for this thread by carefully positioning the spectator camera thingy (except the last one, which is a screenshot of me playing). Here they are (hover over to see what they are).

If you didn't get it yet, you can build sentry guns and bomb the other guys' base.

This game is the reason I haven't been on NSF in a while. (...That, and World of Warcraft. *cough* <.<) Pyro/Soldier here, with the Degreaser, Shotgun, and Postal Pummeler for my Pyro and the Black Box, Shotgun, and Shovel for the Soldier, though I mostly play Pyro.

Nice to meet you. I'm a Medic with the Crusaders Crossbow, Kritzkrieg and Vita-saw Solemn Vow, and i try to heal everyone who needs it. I also have a setting on that lets me know if anyone needs help without them having to call for a Medic.

How could it be like this all of a sudden if you posted 53 something hours last post...

I for one, don't understand why a person needs to play this ONE game for SO long though...
Title: Re: [FPS] Team Fortress 2
Post by: Salmoneous on September 01, 2011, 13:20:04
I have been playing team fortress classic for 1582 hours these last 3 years. that's more then 1 hour each day for 3 years. Well it's possibly a bit longer then 3 years, like 3 and a half years. Well the point is that you can get ridiculously high playing times. But these 2 weeks it's only been 9 hours for me, school started for me so a bit busy  :/

Just to think that a game can take more than 5% of my time for these last 3,5 years is kinda sad.
1528 hours, that's 65 days! It might be a bit depressing to look at it that way, like if you had no life. But not like those other 23 hours a day is going into anything good so...

Playing games should be considered a hobby and the definition of that is wasting your time on stuff. But if would be carving ice sculptures or playing basketball 2 hours a day it wouldn't be received in the same way as playing computer games. And while you could have multiple hobbies or change hobby every month, the game market is just so big and it's just so many games! So if you play a lot of games there will always be more games to play, even if you would play games 24/7 for the next thousand years. It's a huge growing industry.

Well sorry, that's a bit off-topic. Anyway...

I refuse to believe he's fine.
jetio, your friend is fine.

I for one, don't understand why a person needs to play this ONE game for SO long though...
Well there might be multiple reasons why. A lot of people are still on this forum and play new ks levels. That's a game I have been stuck on for a very long time, since it's release! I also think the community is a big reason why many people chose to stick around, especially in online games. tfc is such a game, my game  :) While I have played the same stuff in the game over and over again I play mostly because I am a part of the tfc community. tfc is a half-life mod, made in 1999 and it's not so hot anymore. I in fact know most of the people who play the game or otherwise I at least know their names.

Or you could think of it as a life. You have lived very long and days start to repeat themselves so why not take suicide?

Team Fortress 2
74.8 hrs / 776.7 hrs

That's 32 days of TF2 for him. I remember him getting the game October of 2010, so that's ~11 months, or 341 days.
That's 9% of his time on TF2, or 2 hours a day.

Say, what weapons and classes do you guys use? I'm less interested about how addicted people are and more about what they use. :P

I've recently gotten into playing a Sniper. I have the Huntsman because I love not having to zoom in, Jarate because I can spy check as well ass provide an offensive boost to teammates or extinguishing fire, and the default Kukiri because that's all I have. <.< Still, with the Jarate, I don't know how many times I saw a flaming Heavy with very little health rushing toward a health pack and I extinguished him. Same goes for my Pyro's compression blast. Don't forget to use those, fellow Pyros, Jarate-wielding Snipers, and Mad Milk-wielding Scouts! Your teammates will thank you!

sniper my favorite class, not that my aim is very good, it's just a bit less demanding in terms of doing well with that class. In servers with more players in tf2 it's very easy with sniper, almost no problem getting the best killcount on your team. iIn tfc however the gameplay is far more skill-based then tf2 and with stuff like bhop and conc-jumping it's a more precise and fast-paced game.

Pyro: Backburner, Detonator, and Powerjack.
Demoman: Splendid Screen, Eyelander, and Grenade Launcher.
Heavy: Brass Beast, Shotgun, and fists.
Engineer: Wrench, Frontier Justice, and the new sparky weapon which name I can't remember.
Medic: the Solemn Vow, Quick-Fix and Overdose.
Sniper: the Machina or Bazaar Bargain, SMG, and Tribeman's Shiv.
Spy: Eternal Reward, Cloak&Dagger, and Enforcer.

Araments:
Scout:  Soda Popper, pistol, holy mackeral (for the humiliations!)
Soldier:  Default rocket launcher, Buff Banner (due to my VERY bad shotgun skill), and Equalizer (Really lives up to its name)
Pyro:  Backburner (I think), Flare gun (I need my range), and axtinguisher (Only pyro arament)
Demoman:  Default grenade launcher, Scottish resistance, Eyelander
Heavy:  Tomislav, Sandvich, and the killing gloves of boxing.  (Gloves of Running urgently doesn't seem too useful in my view.
Engineer:  Default shotgun, default pistol, and Jag.  (Not many engineering goods.)
Medic:  Blutsauger, Medigun, and Ubersaw.
Sniper:  Standard sniper, Jarate, and Standard Kukri
Spy:  L'etranger, The Big Earner, Default watch.  (No other watches.)

Forgive me for some of my horrendous equipments.

@ NESgamer's loadout:

The Buff Banner would work well with the Black Box, because the +15 health on hit helps you survive long enough to use it. :P Then again, with the slow reload time, if you haaate reloads, you can use the rocket launcher. The Black Box works for me though 'cause I can't dodge to save my live. [/pun]

EDIT: After getting two dominations and making the final push while attacking on an attack/defend map as a Heavy, I think I might try to get into playing a Heavy. I crafted a Natascha and caved in and bought a Sandvich, and I'm using the default fists because, let's face it, as the slowest class in the game, you can't melee much. :P

EDIT2: Found out I don't suck as a Scout! :U Got a Shortstop, Mad Milk, and a Sandman. I'm loving the maneuverability and how easy it is to run away from a battle and attack from another angle. >:3

people will hate you for using the quick-fix unless you're pocketing a scout

if they would at least give it slower overheal or a more effective uber, it would actually have a use. the lack of overheal and shoddy uber just cripples any offensive pushes

I suppose, on the other hand, it's good for the kind of Medic that sits behind the lines fixing up their teammates so they can get back to the front much much quicker. It's not really supposed to be a Medigun for pushes.

Still needs a buff, though. :v LIKE IMMUNITY TO PYRO AIRBLASTING WHEN UBERED e.e

Yeah. So? I'm that kind of person. Instead of humpin' Heavies, i actually heal. It's the only f*cking thing i am good at and useful for.

Why...would you even need it? No overheal. :v
I heal only when my teammates need it, and i want to get to the frontlines/make a run for it as fast as i can. The Quick-Fix does both of those better than any other Medigun. As for no overheal/uber, i never used my ubers anyway and overhealing just makes me more of a F2P Heavy-humpin' Medic.

It's not just about pocket Medics, it's about it's uselessness when it comes to a push. Ubering or Kritzing a Heavy or Soldier can help the whole team push forward, so that's a good time to, as you put it, "hump a Heavy". The Megaheal doesn't give you the firepower or survivability to push. It's fine if the enemy team tries to push and you need to keep ze healing on all of ze frauleins, I suppose.

On the Steam-Powered User Forums, someone said something that made a lot of sense: If you're the only Medic on the taem, use the Medigun or Kritzkrieg. If you already have a Medic with one of those weapons, go ahead and use the Quick-Fix.

And if you're not good at doing ze hurting, have you tried playing as a Pyro? Pretty easy to pick up.

I have 200 hours on the game, and play mainly as Pyro,Medic and Scout. Recently I've come to like Soldier because of rocket-jumping.
Even though I absolutely love my few hats,I do find the hat market that this game provides just too hard to get into...Almost all hats cost more than 3E,and that's too much for a visual change.
Main point of post:anyone trading rocket jumper?  :P

I disagree. Not being actively playing the game last few times I went on matches I no longer have it as easy for me. There's too many new weapons, each with it's own special gimmick and it's hard to learn how to play against.
