EPIC KS Level Competition, Mark II - WINNERS ANNOUNCED
« on: January 03, 2016, 21:03:36 »
Alright, all votes have been taken into account and the final calculations have been made. Here are the results (template stolen from the last competition :P):

In 6th place:
DrKorbin - Who kidnaps the Knytts with 8 points!

In 5th place:
Purple Ink - Advena with 22 points!

In 4th place:
Talps - Dragon Myth with 24 points!

In 3rd place:
Ultigonio - Deep Freeze with 42 points!

In 2nd place:
Glorious Trainwrecks - The Cursed Gallery with 80 points!

In 1st place:
ixMarcel - Saving Thalanill with 96 points!

To round it off, here are some pointless bonus awards:
  • Fan Favorite (got the most 1st place votes) - Deep Freeze
  • Underdog (biggest difference between vote rank and final rank) - The Cursed Gallery
  • Most Improved (biggest increase in review score between 1st and 2nd scoring) - The Cursed Gallery
  • Epicest Level (the level with the largest unique screen count) - Advena
  • Fub's Personal Pick (The competition host's favorite level) - Deep Freeze
  • Cakiest Contributor (the voter who made the best cake) - Vegetal Gibber

For those who submitted a level, you may determine/claim a prize by sending me a PM either on the forums or on the Discord. Ideally, you should pick the Steam games you want, and as long as the total price is under the specified amount (before tax), I will buy them for you. Thanks for participating, and perhaps we may do this again some time. Cheers!

Things to remember when writing figures of speech and sound:
The power of poetry comes from the ability to defy logic. Defy logic often.

Use a metaphor and tell us that your lover is the sky. Tell us that your lover is the sky. When you do that, we won't believe you. We won't believe you because saying so makes no sense, but we'll see a meaning. We'll see a meaning.

The other thing is the ability to be remembered. Love anything.

I'm so happy to see this! My stockpile of unused game keys is even huger than when I ran this before, so I'd be glad to contribute some if desired. But for now, it's time to start thinking about what I might want to make.

Exciting!  I suppose this would be an effective motivation to pull together my current level's development and finish it.  I could enter Deep Freeze itself, but it's over a year old by now, and it wouldn't even come close to making the size requirements.  :P2
Indefinitely Held Off:

Awesome! I already had an idea for my new level, this is the motivation I needed. Good luck everyone!

Sounds like a really neat idea. Unfortunately for me, making large sized levels is not my cup of tea, as I already have too many unfinished game projects (although most of them are non-KS related). I might change my mind if I can think of something both interesting and manageable, though. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up for this :)

Whoa, 300 unique screens! That's a heck of a lot. Is there any easy way to count how many screens are in a level? (Like, with a program or something?)

Yes, but only the one with the higher score will be counted. (i.e. you can't have two or more levels in the final running)

Edit: Never mind. Apparently I am a fool in this regard. You might want to ask Egomassive.

I was wondering how to do that myself. I did a search on the forums and found out about this tool. It shows the number of filled screens in the status bar when you open a KS level.

Just as I come back to the forum, something interesting starts happening. ...As soon as I have access to a Windows PC, I'll start a level.
Thanks for the stars, everyone!

I've been thinking for a while of doing over my old level, 'Eurydice', to smooth out some of the kinks, but the more I've thought of it, the more it's become less of a going over and more of a total remake in my head, with new sequences, new bits of story and a lot less backtracking. If I do decide to work on that next and somehow complete it within this deadline, would I be penalised for remaking an old level from scratch instead of making something totally new?

No sir. You would not be penalized at all. Go for it.

So long as you are willing to share the prize.
